Netflix’s $500 million Xbox adaptation bid stalled at $800 million

Netflix put $500 million on the table for exclusive rights to turn Xbox games into films and series over seven years, and the talks still collapsed. Insider Gaming reported the offer on 23 October, citing Puck’s Matthew Belloni, which makes this a look back at stalled negotiations rather than word of a signed deal.

According to that account, Microsoft wanted $800 million for the same seven-year window. Bella Bajaria, the Netflix content executive who made the offer, left the company before any agreement was reached, and the proposal dropped out of play. The report adds that Xbox is now leaning toward smaller deals with a wider set of partners.

The relationship itself has not gone cold. In a statement quoted by the report, Xbox called Netflix an important partner and pointed to the upcoming Minecraft and Diablo animated series. Neither project is cancelled by the failed pitch, and game availability on Xbox or PC is unaffected, since the money was aimed at screen adaptations.
